Power System Integration - Mackay & Central Queensland
The right power system, engineered to last.

Beetle Engineering designs and integrates power systems for industrial facilities across Central Queensland. From transformer installations and switchroom builds through to power factor correction and load studies, we handle the electrical infrastructure that keeps your plant running.

Power System Integration

What power system integration with Beetle actually looks like.

Electrical infrastructure for industrial operations

Power systems in mining, sugar and manufacturing environments are not like commercial installations. The loads are larger, the consequences of failure are more expensive, and the environments are harder on equipment. Getting the design right from the start matters.

We engineer power systems that are correctly sized for current and future load, protected against realistic fault conditions, and maintainable by the site electrical team without needing specialist support for routine work.

What we design and integrate

Transformer installations - selection, civil and structural interface, protection relay schemes, and commissioning. We specify transformers to match your load profile and site conditions, and design the associated switchgear and protection to coordinate correctly.

HV and LV switchrooms - switchroom layout, busbar design, protection coordination, and earthing systems. Whether you’re building a new switchroom from scratch or upgrading an existing one, we produce the engineering package required for fabrication and installation.

Motor control centres (MCCs) - MCC specification and design for motor-heavy processing applications. Starter selection, protection sizing, and integration with your control system.

Protection relay schemes - overcurrent, earth fault, differential and distance protection for MV and HV systems. We design protection to discriminate correctly under all fault conditions and coordinate with your network service provider’s upstream protection.

Earthing and lightning protection - earthing system design to AS/NZS 3000 and AS 2067 for HV installations. Earth grid design, step and touch potential calculations, and lightning protection for exposed structures and equipment.

Power factor correction - assessment of reactive power demand and design of correction systems. Fixed and automatic correction banks sized to your load profile, with harmonic filtering where required.

Power quality - site assessment for voltage fluctuations, harmonics, and power quality issues. Identification of root causes and engineering of corrections, including filters, voltage regulators, and load management approaches.

Typical projects

New processing lines or equipment additions where the existing supply infrastructure needs to be assessed and upgraded to carry the additional load. Switchroom replacements where ageing equipment has reached end of life and a like-for-like swap is not adequate. Power quality investigations on sites where unexplained equipment failures or nuisance tripping is affecting production.

We also work regularly on shutdown projects where power system work needs to be planned, engineered and executed within a fixed outage window - a constraint we understand and design around from the start.

Engineering documentation

Every power system project is supported by engineering documentation - load schedules, protection relay settings, single-line diagrams, and commissioning records. These are produced to RPEQ standard and handed over at project completion so your team has accurate records of the installed system.

One process. Zero surprises.

Common questions, straight answers.

Power system integration covers everything from the point of supply into your facility through to the final distribution boards and motor control centres. This includes transformer selection and installation, HV and LV switchgear, protection relay schemes, earthing systems, power factor correction, and the cabling between it all. We handle the full scope or work alongside your electrical contractor on specific engineering components.
Yes. We carry out load flow analysis, fault level calculations, and protection coordination studies for industrial facilities. These are typically required when adding significant new load to an existing system, upgrading protection equipment, or connecting to a network service provider. Results are documented in an engineering report suitable for submission to your NSP or principal contractor.
Yes. HV switchgear, transformers, protection relay schemes and HV cable systems are a regular part of our work on mining and processing sites in Central Queensland. All HV engineering is carried out under RPEQ oversight and appropriate electrical licences.
Yes. If your site is experiencing voltage fluctuations, harmonic distortion, poor power factor, or nuisance tripping, we can carry out an assessment and recommend corrections. Power factor correction systems, harmonic filters, and voltage regulation equipment are all within our scope.
